Flyer Supports MiFID II and Leads Industry in Cybersecurity with Engine 6.2 Release

Two-for-One: Better MiFID II Support and More Secure Connectivity with new FIX Engine 6.2 Release.

MiFID II is a complex challenge; Flyer simplifies it. Securing your network from cyber attack is a challenge; Flyer makes it easy.

The Flyer FIX Engine is a proven high-performance, widely deployed FIX platform. Fully featured and extremely flexible, it serves as a standalone FIX engine, an embedded FIX router, and a FIX SDK all in one package.

Flyer is pleased to announce the release of version 6.2, expanding our support for new MiFID II requirements while simultaneously creating the most secure FIX Engine in its class. The latest release now available for download and including the freemium version.

MiFID II

Flyer existing and new customers are uniquely positioned to benefit from the latest FIX Engine 6.2 enabling them to meet their MiFID II objectives.

MiFID II requires accurate tick history data and timestamping, and the Flyer FIX Engine has been enhanced to make this easy. Timestamps in tags from counterparties can include arbitrary precision, and these extra digits can be transparently logged and passed through. Our goal was to make this as seamless as possible.

Additionally, the Flyer FIX Engine generates its own timestamps, both for tag 52 (Sending Time) and as per-message metadata. Even on commodity server hardware, microsecond timestamps can be configured and enabled on a per-session basis with no impact to performance.

Beyond timestamps, Flyer has made it easier than ever to generate drop copies and other reporting messages to help with reporting and audit trail requirements, as well as logging IP and port information for all messages as metadata.

FIX Engine 6.2 additionally supports new FIX tags recently ratified by the FIX Trading Community.  These tags must be sent with electronic orders to support MiFID2 trade and transaction reporting requirements.

REST APIs

Flyer is committed to simple-yet-powerful REST interfaces, and we continue to expand our FIX engine’s integration capabilities. The engine can now be flexibly queried via REST for sets of FIX messages, allowing reporting or analysis tools to interface directly. We also provide a powerful REST API for configuring modules (e.g., message translation, routing, drop copies, filtering, lookups).

REST is widely used and easy to implement, making our FIX Engine more interoperable than ever.

Enhanced TLS Support

Bloomberg is requiring all FIX sessions connect with TLS encryption this year. The Flyer FIX Engine has always supported TLS, but we have enhanced it specifically to make Bloomberg TLS support a drop-in solution with a streamlined user experience. Our engine not only directly supports Bloomberg’s per-session certificates but can also be deployed as a transparent TLS proxy maintaining your connectivity without requiring changes to your existing FIX infrastructure.

The Future

Flyer has a wide array of financial and FIX software solutions and remains committed to continuously improving its core FIX Engine as a modern full-featured FIX platform. As initiatives like FIX Orchestra advance and the FIX Protocol modernizes, Flyer will continue to invest to advance its leading global platform.
